How do I create an API key in Whippy?
Last updated: November 5, 2026
Create an API key when an external system needs to authenticate with Whippy for an integration or automation. API keys should be treated like passwords because they allow programmatic access to your Whippy account.
Before you start
Only create an API key for a trusted integration or internal system.
Choose a clear name that explains what the key is used for.
Prepare a secure place to store the key after creation.
Steps
Open Whippy.
Click the code icon in the top navigation bar to open the Developers page.
Confirm you are on the API Keys page.
Click Add API Key.
Enter a descriptive name in the API Key Name field.
Click Yes, Create Key.
Confirm the success banner appears.
Copy the API key using the copy icon.
Store the key securely for the system or integration that needs it.
Tips
Create separate API keys for separate systems when possible.
Do not paste API keys into public documents, tickets, or repositories.
Delete keys that are no longer used.
Rotate a key immediately if you believe it was exposed.
Troubleshooting
The key is not visible: Confirm key creation completed successfully, or create a new key.
An integration cannot authenticate: Verify the external system is using the correct key.
A key was exposed: Delete it immediately and create a replacement.
