What should I do if my phone number is spoofed?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Phone number spoofing happens when a bad actor disguises their sender information so messages appear to come from your number, even though they were not sent from your Whippy account.

What to do

  1. Review your Whippy message activity to confirm whether the messages were sent from your account.

  2. If you do not see the messages in Whippy, explain to affected contacts that the number may have been spoofed.

  3. Ask affected contacts to avoid replying to suspected spoofed messages.

  4. Ask affected contacts to report the messages to their mobile carrier.

  5. If the incident is in the United States, file or direct contacts to file a complaint with the FCC.

  6. If you see unexpected messages in Whippy, update your password and review account access immediately.

Tips

  • Spoofing does not necessarily mean your Whippy account is compromised.

  • Keep records of reports from affected contacts.

  • Educate teammates on how to identify and respond to suspected spoofing.

  • Encourage all affected recipients to report incidents to their carriers.

Troubleshooting

  • If contacts received messages you did not send, ask them to report the incident to their carrier.

  • If you are concerned about account security, review message logs and user access.

  • If spoofing affects multiple contacts, collect examples and continue reporting through carrier or regulator channels.
