What are contact segments?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Contact segments are saved filters that automatically update as contacts match or stop matching the segment rules.

What segments are for

  • Use segments for audiences that should stay current as contact data changes.

  • Use static lists when you need a fixed audience that does not change automatically.

  • Use segments to reuse filtered contact audiences in campaigns, workflows, and reporting.

Steps

  1. Open Contacts from the main sidebar.

  2. Open Lists.

  3. Select Segments.

  4. Review the saved segments table.

  5. Open a segment to view the contacts that currently match it.

  6. Use row actions to duplicate, rename, or delete a segment when needed.

  7. To create a new segment, build a contact filter and select Save as segment.

Tips

  • Name segments based on the rule intent, not only the campaign using them.

  • Review segment rules before messaging or exporting the audience.

  • Use static lists instead of segments when membership must remain fixed.

Troubleshooting

  • If a contact disappears from a segment, check whether the contact still matches the saved filter rules.

  • If a segment has more contacts than expected, narrow the filter rules.

  • If a user cannot edit a segment, review their Contacts permissions.
