How do I import contacts?
Last updated: November 5, 2026
Import contacts when you need to add a fixed audience to Whippy from a file or pasted table data.
Before you start
Prepare a clean contact file or copied table data.
Use clear columns for names, phone numbers, emails, external IDs, tags, or other fields.
Confirm you have consent before opting imported contacts into messaging channels.
Steps
Open Contacts from the main sidebar.
Select All contacts.
Select Add.
Select Import CSV.
Enter a name for the new static list created by the import.
If appropriate, use Opt in to channels to opt imported contacts into selected channels.
Upload a supported file or paste contact data from your clipboard.
Map columns to contact fields.
Review the import mapping.
Confirm the import.
Open Lists → Static lists to review the imported list.
Tips
Clean the file before importing so phone numbers, emails, and external IDs are consistent.
Use a descriptive static list name with the audience and date.
Run a small test import if the file has many custom fields or unusual formatting.
Troubleshooting
If a file does not upload, export it as CSV or XLSX and remove unsupported formatting.
If columns map incorrectly, rename source columns clearly and remove extra header rows.
If imported contacts cannot receive messages, review destinations, opt-in status, and selected channels.
