What are static contact lists?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Static contact lists are fixed contact groups that do not update automatically unless contacts are manually added or removed.

When to use a static list

  • Use static lists when the audience should stay fixed.

  • Use them for imported audiences, one-time campaigns, manual review groups, or operational lists.

  • Use segments instead when membership should update dynamically from filter rules.

Steps

  1. Open Contacts from the main sidebar.

  2. Open Lists.

  3. Select Static lists.

  4. Review the available static lists.

  5. Open a list to view its contacts.

  6. Add or remove contacts from the list when the audience needs to change.

Tips

  • Name static lists with the audience purpose and date.

  • Use static lists for imported audiences that should not change automatically.

  • Use segments for audiences that should stay current as contact data changes.

Troubleshooting

  • If a contact is missing from a static list, add the contact manually or check the import that created the list.

  • If a list has outdated contacts, remove contacts manually or create a new list.

  • If a user cannot edit a list, review their Contacts permissions.
