How do I send links in Whippy?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Whippy can automatically shorten and track links that you send in messages. This helps long URLs stay clean for recipients and allows click activity to be tracked when link tracking is enabled.

Before you start

  • Link tracking is enabled by default for most organizations, but it can be disabled at the organization, channel, campaign, or sequence level.

  • If you want links to use your own branded domain, configure a custom link tracking domain before sending.

Steps

  1. Open the conversation, campaign, sequence, or automated message where you want to send the link.

  2. Paste the full destination URL into the message.

  3. Send the message.

  4. Whippy detects the URL and generates a unique tracked link for the recipient.

  5. The recipient receives the shortened link and is redirected to the original destination when they click it.

What recipients see

  • You may still see the original URL inside Whippy.

  • The recipient receives the shortened tracked link.

  • This difference is expected and helps prevent accidental internal clicks from affecting analytics.

Tips

  • Use link tracking when you want cleaner message links or click analytics.

  • Use a custom tracking domain when you want links to match your brand.

  • Do not use external shorteners such as Bitly or TinyURL unless your workflow specifically requires them.

Troubleshooting

  • The link is not shortened: Confirm link tracking is enabled for the organization, channel, campaign, or sequence.

  • The link uses the wrong domain: Check whether a custom link domain is configured correctly.

  • Clicks are not tracked: Confirm tracking was enabled when the message was sent.
