What is link tracking?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Use link tracking to measure when contacts click links you send through Whippy messages, campaigns, or shareable tracked links.

What link tracking does

  • Creates tracked versions of URLs.

  • Records link clicks.

  • Supports campaign and message engagement reporting.

  • Can use branded domains when configured.

How tracked links behave

  • When you send a URL in Whippy, the system may convert it into a tracked link.

  • When the recipient clicks the tracked link, Whippy records the click and redirects them to the destination URL.

  • Shareable tracked links can be reused outside Whippy.

  • Message-specific tracked links may be generated per contact and conversation.

Tips

  • Use complete URLs that start with http:// or https://.

  • Use branded domains when available to improve trust.

  • Test important links before sending them broadly.

  • Use clear link descriptions and consistent UTM parameters for reporting.

Troubleshooting

  • If clicks are not tracked, confirm the tracked link was used.

  • If a link uses the wrong domain, check the selected or default tracking domain.

  • If a destination does not open, test the original URL.
