How do I manage channel permissions and access?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Channel permissions control which users can access a channel and what they can do with conversations, calls, and settings for that channel.

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage channel settings.

  • Choose the channel you want to update.

  • Decide whether the user should be a channel admin or a channel user.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Organization Settings.

  3. Select Channels.

  4. Find the channel you want to manage.

  5. Select the three-dots menu in the Actions column.

  6. Select Edit Channel.

  7. Open the Users tab.

  8. To add a user, select Add User, choose the user, and confirm.

  9. To manage an existing user, open the three-dots menu next to their name.

  10. Choose whether to update permissions, make them an admin, remove them from the channel, or disable their access.

Tips

  • Grant admin access only to users who need to manage configuration and routing.

  • Review channel access after team or role changes.

  • Use disable access for temporary access removal when appropriate.

Troubleshooting

  • If a user cannot see a channel, confirm they are added to the channel.

  • If a user cannot edit settings, confirm they have admin access or the right permissions.

  • If you cannot manage another user, confirm your own channel permissions.
