How do I manage channel users?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Use the Users tab on a channel to review, search, and manage which teammates can access that channel.

Before you start

  • Confirm you have permission to manage channel users.

  • Know which channel the teammate should access.

  • Confirm the teammate is active in Whippy.

Steps

  1. Open Settings > Channels.

  2. Select the channel you want to manage.

  3. Open the Users tab.

  4. Use Search Name and Email to find a user already assigned to the channel.

  5. Click the add-user control if you need to add someone to the channel.

  6. Select the eligible user.

  7. Confirm the change.

  8. Ask the user to refresh Whippy if the channel does not appear immediately.

Tips

  • Use channel users for channel access and roles for broader permissions.

  • Review channel access when a teammate changes teams or responsibilities.

  • Keep channel access limited to teammates who need to work in that channel.

  • Admins may have broader access and may not appear in add-user lists the same way as standard users.

Troubleshooting

  • If a user is not available to add, check whether they are disabled, already added, or covered by admin access.

  • If search does not find a user, clear the search and try a broader name or email term.

  • If a user still cannot see the channel, ask them to refresh and then review their role and channel access.
