What is link tracking in Whippy?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Link tracking automatically shortens links, records clicks, and redirects contacts to the original URL. It helps keep messages clean while giving you engagement data for campaigns, sequences, and conversations.

How it works

  1. You send a message, campaign, or sequence that includes a link.

  2. Whippy detects the link.

  3. Whippy replaces it with a shortened tracked link.

  4. Each contact receives a unique tracked link.

  5. When the contact clicks it, Whippy records the click.

  6. The contact is redirected to the original destination URL.

Where link tracking applies

  • Conversations

  • Channels or locations

  • Campaigns

  • Sequences

Enable or disable link tracking

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Open Organization Settings.

  3. Find the link tracking setting.

  4. Turn link tracking on or off.

  5. Repeat at the channel, campaign, or sequence level if needed.

Tips

  • Keep link tracking enabled when you need analytics or automation triggers.

  • Use custom domains for branded links.

  • Remember that contacts receive unique tracked links.

  • Whippy may show the original URL internally while the contact receives the shortened tracked version.

Troubleshooting

  • The link is not shortened: Confirm link tracking is enabled.

  • The link looks long in Whippy: This can be expected because the UI may show the original URL.

  • No click data appears: Confirm the message was sent with tracking enabled.
