How do I manage knowledge bases for AI agents?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Attach knowledge bases to an AI agent so it can answer with approved information. Keep each agent’s knowledge focused so it does not reference outdated, irrelevant, or conflicting content.

Before you start

  • Create and publish the knowledge base the agent should use.

  • Decide which knowledge bases are relevant to the agent’s workflow.

  • Remove or avoid broad knowledge sources that could create conflicting answers.

Attach knowledge bases to an agent

  1. Open Agents.

  2. Select the agent you want to update.

  3. Click Edit agent.

  4. Go to the knowledge bases step or section.

  5. Open the knowledge base dropdown.

  6. Select the knowledge bases the agent should reference.

  7. Unselect any knowledge bases the agent should no longer use.

  8. Click Save.

  9. Preview the agent to confirm it answers from the selected knowledge.

Update knowledge used by agents

  1. Open Agents and go to Knowledge.

  2. Select the knowledge base you want to update.

  3. Edit existing pages or add new pages.

  4. Save your changes.

  5. Publish the knowledge base so agents can use the latest version.

  6. Preview the agent to validate responses.

Tips

  • Attach only the knowledge bases the agent truly needs.

  • Use separate knowledge bases for different products, teams, or workflows.

  • Publish changes before expecting an agent to use updated content.

  • Preview after changing knowledge base assignments.

  • Prefer smaller focused knowledge bases over one large mixed source.

Troubleshooting

  • The agent gives outdated answers: Publish the updated knowledge base.

  • The agent references irrelevant information: Detach unrelated knowledge bases.

  • The agent ignores knowledge: Confirm at least one knowledge base is selected and saved.

  • Answers conflict: Remove duplicate or overlapping content from attached knowledge bases.
