How do I add an AI agent to a sequence?
Last updated: November 5, 2026
Use AI agent steps in sequences when you want a scheduled sequence to launch a conversational AI interaction at the right point in the workflow.
Before you start
Create or confirm the AI agent you want to use.
Confirm the sequence channel supports the agent type you plan to add.
Decide whether the agent should send the first message or wait for the contact to message first.
Steps
Go to Sequences.
Select the sequence you want to edit, or create a new sequence.
Open the Steps tab.
Click Add Step.
Choose Voice AI Agent or Chat Agent, depending on channel availability.
Select the agent from the dropdown.
Configure step details such as title, timezone, and schedule.
Choose whether the agent should send the first message or wait for the contact to message first.
Save the step.
Add any additional steps, triggers, or branching logic.
Turn the sequence on when it is ready.
Tips
Use AI agents when you want a conversation, not just a message.
Place agent steps after initial outreach so the contact understands who they are speaking with.
Use response triggers to route contacts differently based on AI outcomes.
Keep sequences simple when combining multiple agents to avoid overlapping conversations.
Troubleshooting
If the AI agent does not appear in the dropdown, create the agent or review permissions.
If the agent does not send the first message, edit the step and enable the first-message option.
If the agent does not start, review quiet hours and business-hour rules.
If the agent never engages, confirm the selected channel supports the agent type.
