How do I add contacts to a sequence?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Add contacts to a sequence to enroll them in automated messages and actions. You can add individual contacts, contacts with tags, groups, uploads, or newly created contacts.

Before you start

  • Review the sequence settings before enrolling contacts.

  • Confirm the sending channel and start step.

  • If you are uploading contacts, prepare a supported file with clean headers.

Steps

  1. Go to Sequences.

  2. Select the sequence you want to enroll contacts into.

  3. Click Add Contacts.

  4. Choose the sending channel.

  5. Select the audience source, such as contacts, tags, groups, uploads, or a new contact.

  6. If uploading contacts, upload or paste the list and map fields to the correct headers.

  7. Choose the start step.

  8. Choose whether to add contacts now or schedule enrollment for later.

  9. Review the audience size and channel mapping.

  10. Click Add to Sequence.

Tips

  • Use tags or groups for repeatable enrollment criteria.

  • Use scheduled enrollment for time-sensitive workflows.

  • Start contacts on later steps only when the sequence is designed for mid-flow entry.

  • Check phone numbers and mapped headers before using uploaded contacts.

Troubleshooting

  • A contact is not added: Check required fields, blocked status, and contact details.

  • The wrong channel is used: Re-add the contact with the correct channel selected.

  • A contact is added multiple times: Adjust sequence frequency and re-enrollment settings.

  • An upload fails: Use a supported file type and confirm header mapping.
