How do I modify an AI agent’s beginning and ending messages?
Last updated: November 5, 2026
Beginning and ending messages define what your AI agent says at the start and end of a call. Use them to set expectations, introduce your business, and close the call professionally.
Before you start
Open the AI agent you want to update.
Decide the greeting and closing language you want callers to hear.
Keep both messages short and clear.
Steps
Open Agents.
Select the agent you want to update.
Click Edit agent.
Find the Begin Message field under the agent instructions or call settings.
Enter a short greeting that includes your business name and what the agent can help with.
Find the End the call by saying field.
Enter a professional closing message that confirms the next step or politely ends the call.
Click Save.
Use preview or a test call to confirm the messages play correctly.
Tips
Keep each message under 15–20 seconds.
Include your business name in the beginning message.
Use a tone that matches your brand.
Clearly set expectations for what the agent can help with.
Confirm next steps in the ending message when possible.
Troubleshooting
Changes do not play on calls: Save the agent and test again.
The message feels too long: Shorten it to the most important information.
The wrong greeting plays: Confirm you edited the correct agent.
The closing sounds unclear: Rewrite it to confirm the next step in one sentence.
