How do I remove a contact from a sequence?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Remove a contact from a sequence when they should stop receiving future sequence messages. You can remove contacts manually or configure triggers that remove them automatically.

Before you start

  • Open the sequence the contact is enrolled in.

  • Confirm whether you want a one-time manual removal or an automated removal rule.

  • Review re-enrollment settings if you want to prevent the contact from being added again.

Manually remove a contact

  1. Go to Sequences.

  2. Select the sequence you want to manage.

  3. Open the Contacts tab.

  4. Search or filter for the contact.

  5. Click the more actions menu next to the contact.

  6. Select Remove from Sequence.

  7. Confirm the removal.

Automatically remove contacts with a trigger

  1. Open the sequence.

  2. Go to the Steps tab.

  3. Select the step where the exit condition should apply.

  4. Click Add Trigger.

  5. Select the trigger type, such as response, keyword, or link click.

  6. Click Add Action.

  7. Select Remove from Sequence.

  8. Choose the sequence to remove the contact from.

  9. Save the action and trigger.

Tips

  • Use automated removal when replies or clicks should end the sequence.

  • Use manual removal for one-off cases.

  • Pair response and link triggers when either action should stop follow-ups.

  • Review re-add settings to prevent unwanted re-enrollment.

Troubleshooting

  • The contact still receives a message after removal: The step may have already been queued.

  • The trigger does not remove the contact: Confirm the action is set to Remove from Sequence.

  • The contact re-enters later: Update sequence settings to prevent re-adds.

  • The remove option is not visible: Check whether the contact is already finished, responded, or not enrolled.
