How do I configure messaging settings in Whippy?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Use Messaging settings to manage organization-wide opt-out behavior, link tracking, click metadata, tracking domains, and SMS cost controls.

Before you start

  • You may need admin access to change organization messaging settings.

  • Decide how broadly opt-outs should apply across channels.

  • Set up tracking domains before choosing a default tracking domain.

  • Review SMS length, translation, and emoji policies if predictable credit usage matters.

Steps

  1. Open Settings from the sidebar.

  2. Select Messaging.

  3. Under communication preferences, choose what happens when a contact opts out.

  4. Select Only the channel they messaged when opt-outs should apply only to the channel that received the opt-out.

  5. Select All channels of the same type when opt-outs should apply to every channel of that communication type.

  6. Select Every channel in the organization when opt-outs should apply organization-wide.

  7. Turn link tracking on or off based on whether Whippy should track link clicks.

  8. Turn click metadata on if click details should be stored with tracked links.

  9. Choose the default tracking domain if more than one tracking domain is available.

  10. Set the maximum length per SMS message.

  11. Choose whether translations can exceed the maximum SMS length.

  12. Choose whether emojis are allowed in SMS messages.

Tips

  • Use the broadest opt-out behavior required by your compliance policy.

  • Use Every channel in the organization when contacts should stop all future communication after opting out.

  • Keep SMS length limits conservative if predictable credit usage matters.

  • Disable emojis in SMS when you want to reduce the chance of messages using more segments.

Troubleshooting

  • If contacts are opted out from fewer channels than expected, change the preference to All channels of the same type or Every channel in the organization.

  • If tracked links use the wrong domain, select the correct default tracking domain in Settings > Messaging.

  • If messages use more credits than expected, adjust SMS length, translation, and emoji settings.

  • If a tracking domain is not available, set up the domain in Settings > Domains, then return to Messaging.
