How do I create and manage tags in Whippy?
Last updated: November 5, 2026
Create and manage tags in Whippy to organize contacts, filter audiences, and keep segments, campaigns, sequences, and workflows targeted.
Before you start
Confirm you have permission to manage tags.
Search existing tags before creating a new one to avoid duplicates.
Decide on a consistent naming convention for your team.
Create a tag
Open Settings from the sidebar.
Select Tags.
Search the existing tag list to confirm the tag does not already exist.
Click Add tag.
Enter the tag name.
Choose a tag color.
Save the tag.
Return to Contacts when you need to apply the tag.
Update or delete a tag
Open Settings > Tags.
Search for the tag you want to manage.
Open the row actions for the tag.
Choose the update option to rename the tag or change its color.
Choose the delete option only when the tag should no longer be available.
Review any filters, segments, campaigns, sequences, or workflows that may rely on the tag before deleting it.
Use tags with contacts
Open Contacts.
Open an individual contact to review or update that contact's tags.
Select multiple contacts when you need to add, remove, or overwrite tags in bulk.
Use the filter builder to find contacts with or without specific tags.
Save a filtered audience as a segment when the same tag-based audience should be reused.
Tips
Use short, clear tag names that describe a contact status, source, preference, or workflow.
Use tags for simple labels and segments for dynamic audiences.
Review dependent filters before deleting or renaming tags.
Keep naming consistent so teams can reuse tags without guessing.
Troubleshooting
If a tag does not appear on a contact, confirm it exists in Settings > Tags.
If too many similar tags exist, agree on a naming convention and consolidate duplicates.
If a segment changed unexpectedly, review whether a tag used by the segment was renamed or deleted.
If contacts lost tags after a bulk update, restore missing tags and use add or remove instead of overwrite next time.
