How do I set up a domain in Whippy?

Set up a domain in Whippy when you want to send emails from your own domain or use branded links in campaigns and text messages.

Before you start

  • Decide whether you want to buy a new domain in Whippy or connect a domain you already own.

  • Decide whether the domain should be used for links, emails, or both.

  • If adding your own domain, make sure you can edit DNS records at your domain provider.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Open Domains.

  3. Choose Buy Domain to purchase a new domain, or Add Domain to connect an existing domain.

  4. If buying a domain, enter the domain name and check availability.

  5. If available, review the price and registration period.

  6. Select whether to enable links, emails, or both.

  7. Complete the purchase and wait for Whippy to provision the domain.

  8. If adding your own domain, enter the domain or subdomain.

  9. Select whether to enable links, emails, or both.

  10. Copy the DNS records Whippy provides.

  11. Add those records exactly at your domain provider.

  12. Return to Whippy and wait for verification.

Tips

  • Enable both links and emails if you plan to use the domain across campaigns and messaging.

  • Use a subdomain, such as mail.yourcompany.com, to avoid affecting your main domain.

  • Choose a Whippy-managed domain for the simplest setup.

  • Choose an existing domain when your team needs full control over domain infrastructure.

Troubleshooting

  • If a domain does not verify, recheck all DNS records for missing or incorrect values.

  • If setup is pending, wait for DNS propagation, which can take up to 24 hours.

  • If the domain is active but not usable, confirm email or link setup is enabled.

  • If the domain is unavailable to purchase, choose a different domain name.
