How do I show my business name on outbound calls (Caller ID / CNAM)?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Caller ID Name (CNAM) is the business name that can appear on the recipient's phone when you call them from a Whippy Business Phone number. Whippy registers your name with the carrier for you.

Before you start

  • Decide on the name you want to display. Caller ID names are short, typically up to 15 characters, so use a clear version of your business name (for example, "Acme Staffing").

  • List the Whippy phone numbers you want the name to show on.

  • Make sure the name matches your registered business information.

Steps

  1. Contact Whippy support from the chat button or email your Customer Success Manager.

  2. Share the display name you want and the phone numbers it should apply to.

  3. Whippy submits the CNAM enrollment to the carrier on your behalf.

  4. The carrier reviews the request. This can take up to 72 hours, and they may ask for more business information.

  5. Once approved, calls from your enrolled numbers start showing your business name on devices that support Caller ID Name.

What to expect

  • It applies to phone calls only. Text messages show your phone number, not a business name.

  • Display depends on the recipient. Whether the name appears is controlled by the recipient's carrier and phone. Some mobile phones only show the number, or show a name the contact saved themselves.

  • It may take time to appear everywhere. After approval, carriers update their records gradually.

Tips

  • Use the same business name across your numbers so contacts recognize you.

  • Save your number in candidates' phones by asking them to add you as a contact. This guarantees your name shows when you call.

Troubleshooting

  • The name still is not showing after a few days: Contact support with the number you called from, the number you called, and the time of the call.

  • The wrong name is showing: Contact support with the name you want and the affected numbers so we can submit an update.
