How do I provision a Poly desk phone with Whippy Business Phone?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Provision a Poly desk phone by pasting a Whippy Business Phone auto-provisioning link into the Poly phone’s provisioning server settings.

Before you start

  • Confirm the Poly phone is connected to the network.

  • Have the phone’s admin password available.

  • Confirm the required SIP domain, credential list, credential attachment, SIP users, and extensions are configured in Whippy.

  • Have access to Whippy Auto-Provisioning settings.

Steps

  1. Open the Poly phone’s IP address in a web browser.

  2. If your browser blocks the local device page, use another browser or proceed through the security warning if appropriate.

  3. Log in using the phone’s admin password.

  4. In Whippy, go to Account Settings.

  5. Confirm SIP domain, credential list, credential attachment, SIP users, and extensions are configured.

  6. Open Auto-Provisioning.

  7. Generate an auto-provisioning link for the Poly device.

  8. Copy the generated link.

  9. Return to the Poly web interface and open the Provisioning Server settings.

  10. Paste the link into the provisioning URL field.

  11. Save the configuration.

  12. If needed, clear old provisioning entries before adding the new link.

  13. Reboot the phone to fetch the Whippy Business Phone configuration.

  14. Confirm users, extensions, and soft keys appear as expected.

Tips

  • Copy the full auto-provisioning URL exactly.

  • Reboot after saving provisioning changes.

  • Reset provisioning settings if the phone was connected to another phone system.

  • Keep SIP users and extensions updated in Whippy.

Troubleshooting

  • If you cannot access the web interface, try another browser or proceed through local-device warnings.

  • If the link does not work, regenerate it in Whippy and paste it again.

  • If the phone does not update, reboot or power cycle it.

  • If old settings remain, clear provisioning fields and reapply the link.

  • If users or extensions are missing, verify SIP domain, credentials, users, and extensions.
