How do I create and manage knowledge bases for AI agents?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Create and publish knowledge bases so AI agents can answer using approved sources of truth. A knowledge base can contain pages created from text, documents, single webpages, or websites.

Before you start

  • Decide what information the agent should reference.

  • Prepare documents, URLs, or text content you want to add.

  • Plan page names that match how users ask questions.

Create and publish a knowledge base

  1. Open Agents from the left sidebar.

  2. Click Knowledge.

  3. Click Create knowledge base.

  4. Enter a name and optional description.

  5. Click Create page.

  6. Enter a page name.

  7. Select a source type: text content, document upload, single webpage, or website.

  8. Add the content for the selected source type.

  9. If using a website source, configure include and exclude paths to control what gets ingested.

  10. Save the page.

  11. Repeat for any additional pages.

  12. Click Publish so agents can use the knowledge base.

Attach a knowledge base to an agent

  1. Open Agents.

  2. Select the agent you want to update.

  3. Click Edit agent.

  4. Go to the knowledge bases step or section.

  5. Select one or more knowledge bases.

  6. Save the agent.

  7. Use preview to test the agent’s responses.

Tips

  • Keep each page focused on one topic.

  • Use one document per document-upload page.

  • Use website include paths to avoid ingesting irrelevant pages.

  • Publish after changes so agents use the latest approved content.

  • Detach unrelated knowledge bases if responses become inconsistent.

Troubleshooting

  • The agent uses outdated content: Publish the knowledge base after edits.

  • A website source includes too much content: Narrow include paths and add exclude paths.

  • Expected website pages are missing: Review path rules and republish.

  • The agent references irrelevant information: Split broad pages or reduce overlapping knowledge bases.
